Why SOAP sucks.

Here is a post on Why SOAP Sucks by Nelson Minar, which is based on this funny because its true dialogue about SOAP. Both of these give a good insight as to why SOAP is too complicated for the programmer on the trenches who just wants to get her program working and go home.

Is SOAP too complicated?

I recall an interview with one of the flickr founders. He said that they have made a SOAP and a REST APIs available. Everyone uses the REST api!

If SOAP is too complicated for the average programmer to use, what about OWL? what about BPEL4WS? These are way more complicated than SOAP. I foresee them dissapearing in the near future to be replaced by an ugly hodge-podge of XmlHTTPRequests and Javascript with informal semantic meaning attached to XML tags.

It seems, only the simplest survive, and then evolves into one complicated mess. For example, HTML.
